meeting at Hotel Maria Kapel: 13.00
workshop synchronised swimming and performance in Hoorn
in collaboration with De Dolfijn Synchroonzwemmen
You float gracefully through the water, like a dolphin ballerina. Your body is in perfect unison with the currents. You lift a leg, do an aqueous twirl, wave to the audience, fall back in a dance with the elements. Applause! You’re a synchronized swimmer!
On August 29 HMK celebrates that we are all bodies of water with a synchronized swimming workshop and performance in Hoorn. The workshop will be led by Iris Pardieck, Sietske Klein and Laura Voskuilen of De Dolfijn synchronized swimming club. We meet at HMK for a quick introduction to artist Rik Dijkhuizen’s project Inside Poolside, after which the instructors will introduce you to the luscious world of synchro and teach you a basic choreography. We end with a public performance in the IJselmeer.
We gather at 13.00 at Hotel Maria Kapel. At 13.15 there will be a small introduction on the project Inside Poolside and the afternoon’s programme, after which we start the workshop around 13.30, at Hotel Maria Kapel or near the lake, depending on the weather. Around 15.00 we have a small break before the final performance at 15.30, in front of the peer next to the Haai Society in Hoorn. After the performance, we walk back to Hotel Maria Kapel to drink tea and change our clothes.
*Bring your bathing suit or wear one underneath your clothes
* Bring warm clothes that you can put on easily when you come out of the water
* Bring a towel
About Rik Dijkhuizen
Rik Dijkhuizen (b. 1988) is a visual artist whose multidisciplinary work often reflects on wellbeing, failure, overcoming and ‘taking things literally’. Water is a recurring theme in his work. Dijkhuizen uses personal and collective references to create imaginative narratives between memory and fiction – otherworldly environments that transcend place and context but feel strangely familiar.
