After two years at HMK, our Creative Director, Miriam Wistreich, is heading for new adventures as Director of UKS, Oslo, starting from February 15, 2021. During her time at HMK, Wistreich guided HMK through a transition period, reorganising HMK through the year programme Slow Burn, co-conceived with artists Maja Bekan and Griet Menschaert. Slow Burn experimented with artistic and curatorial methods and built an institutional practice that put care in the centre of its operations.

With her departure, Wistreich leaves an institution that is has been stroked and cared for and which is stable and better equipped to provide a platform for young artistic practice. Her programme for 2021-2022, On Shelter, will help HMK to further explore how cultural institutions can provide a structure of support for young artists starting their careers in a tumultuous world. “My time at HMK has been an adventure, full of rare creative freedom and close liasons with artists, thinkers, locals and of course my incredible team. I am both nostalgic and excited about giving the institution over to new and fresh hands and eyes and look very much forward to following HMK’s development.”

We are sad to see Miriam go, but look forward to seeing what she will work on next, together with the team of UKS.

*A vacancy for the position of Creative Director at HMK will be online shortly.
